U.S. cattle producers are rebuilding the nation’s herd after supplies hit a 74-year low, says Tyson Foods CEO Donnie King. Tight inventories led to higher beef prices for consumers and increased costs for meatpackers like Tyson, Cargill, and JBS. Farmers reduced herds due to drought and high feed prices, but are now starting to rebuild. Tyson reported a $181 million loss in its beef business for the six months ending on March 29. The rebuilding process can take up to two years, with uncertainty about whether it has begun or is very close.
