President Donald Trump discussed Apple Inc.’s manufacturing expansion in India with CEO Tim Cook during a news conference in Qatar. Apple is shifting away from China-based manufacturing, with Cook expecting the majority of iPhones sold in the U.S. to have India as their country of origin for the June quarter.

Trump highlighted India’s high tariff policies, stating it is challenging to sell into India. Indian officials have offered to drop tariffs on U.S. goods during trade negotiations. Apple has invested $500 billion in U.S. operations, including AI server assembly in Houston, with plans to increase production in the U.S.

Analysts predict that relocating iPhone production to the U.S. could increase costs by 25%. Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives raised his Apple price target to $270, citing confidence in the company’s India supply chain strategy amid tariff concerns. Apple is expected to continue investing in U.S. manufacturing to meet demand and navigate trade challenges.
