Bitcoin developer Ben Allen has received a $100,000 grant from Maelstrom to support the development of Payjoin, a privacy-focused tool for Bitcoin scalability and privacy. Payjoin allows batched transactions for improved scalability and privacy. The grant lasts one year with no concrete milestones, allowing freedom for grantees to work on the project.
Payjoin, first proposed by Nicolas Dorier in 2019, enhances privacy and scalability by allowing both senders and receivers to contribute inputs to a transaction. Maelstrom’s hands-off approach to managing the grant gives Allen the freedom to work on improving Payjoin implementations for more wallet compatibility.
Maelstrom is eager to support more grantees in the privacy area, seeking candidates with strong track records in Bitcoin privacy projects. Payjoin adoption improves privacy for all Bitcoin users, even those who don’t use it. Allen is focused on simplifying the user experience and encouraging adoption by downstream developers and popular open-source Bitcoin wallets.
