UK-based Panthera Resources, through its Australian subsidiary Indo Gold, files a $1.58bn claim against India for breaching a bilateral investment treaty regarding the Bhukia project in Rajasthan. The dispute involves denial of prospecting license rights and alleged hindrance by the Government of Rajasthan. India auctioned part of the project area despite ongoing disputes.
The claim includes allegations of expropriation and failure to protect investments under the Treaty. IGPL’s legal efforts are supported by $13.6m in non-recourse litigation financing from LCM Funding. The Bhukia project boasts a JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate of 38.5mt at 1.4g/t gold. Recent estimates include 113.52mt at 1.96g/t gold and 0.14% copper.
Panthera Resources recently restructured ownership interests in gold projects in Mali and Nigeria. “Panthera Resources files $1.58bn damage claim against India over Bhukia project” was originally published by Mining Technology.
