HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has opened a smart factory in South Korea to enhance global production capabilities. The facility integrates advanced technologies to improve production and logistics processes, with an investment of $150m to upgrade facilities and boost production capacity by 56%. The company expects improved productivity and quality consistency.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by 400 individuals, including key executives, employees, and partners. The smart factory aims to increase labour productivity by 20% and reduce product completion time by 35%. It will link with overseas subsidiaries and customisation centres in the US and Europe, establishing itself as a leading production base.
The smart factory features welding robots, vision sensors, automated guided vehicles, and AI-based quality inspection systems to enhance automation on the assembly line. The company anticipates a significant improvement in productivity and quality consistency, with a 56% increase in production capacity for excavators and wheel loaders.
HD Hyundai Construction Equipment delivered five units from the smart factory during the inauguration, including a 40-ton class excavator and a 35-ton large wheel loader. The company reported a decline in sales and operating profit in the first quarter of 2025, unveiling a new excavator model at a recent exhibition in South Korea.
The company aims to continuously introduce innovative products to lead the construction equipment industry.
