Industry exec sounds alarm on Ledger phishing letter delivered by USPS

Scammers target Ledger users with physical letters instructing them to “validate” wallets or risk losing funds, in the latest phishing attack. BitGo CEO shared a picture of the scam letter featuring a QR code. This highlights the evolving tactics of social engineering scams to steal crypto private keys and user funds.
In April 2025, $330 million in Bitcoin was stolen from an elderly individual through a phishing attack. Two suspects include ‘Nina/Mo’ from a call scam center in Camden, UK, and an accomplice named ‘W0rk’. Coinbase was targeted by a ransom attempt after leaked user data to threat actors by fired customer service contractors.
Scammers demanded a $20 million ransom from Coinbase, which was refused. Stolen data included names, addresses, and contact information of a small subset of customers. No private keys, login credentials, or access to Coinbase Prime accounts were compromised. TechCrunch founder criticized the exchange for the security failure, warning it could lead to physical violence against exposed customers.
