Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) is being sued by consumers alleging the sale of rice products contaminated with arsenic and heavy metals, including well-known brands like Ben’s Original and Whole Foods’ 365.
A recent study by Healthy Babies, Bright Futures found arsenic in all 145 rice samples tested in the US, with 28% exceeding FDA limits for infant rice cereal, sparking the lawsuit.
Plaintiffs claim they would have avoided purchasing contaminated rice if they had known, seeking at least $5 million in damages for violations of consumer protection laws in Washington state.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, accuses Amazon.com, Inc. of selling rice products with high levels of heavy metals without proper testing or warning consumers.
AMZN stock is down nearly 9% since the start of 2025, but other AI stocks may offer greater potential for returns with limited downside risk.
