BYD Company Limited surpassed Tesla, Inc. in electric vehicle sales in Europe for the first time in April, registering 7,231 new battery-electric vehicles, a 169% increase from last year. Tesla saw a 49% drop in sales, as the overall EV market in Europe expanded by 28%. Volkswagen and Skoda also saw significant sales increases.
BYD’s lead over Tesla was even more pronounced when plug-in hybrid sales were factored in, with a total sales surge of 359% year over year in April.
