Mortgage rates in the U.S. rose this week, with the 30-year rate hitting 6.89%, the highest since February. The 15-year rate also increased to 6.03%. The rise is attributed to factors like the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decisions and bond market investors’ concerns over tariffs and government debt. Despite a slight drop in the 10-year Treasury yield, mortgage rates have remained high, affecting homebuyer purchasing power and leading to slow home sales. Pending home sales fell 6.3% last month, indicating a potential slowdown in completed sales. Economists predict rates to fluctuate between 6% and 7% this year.
