Americold building import-export hub in Canada to serve Port Saint John, creating jobs

Americold has started construction on its first import-export hub in Canada, which will serve Port Saint John in New Brunswick, providing 22,000 pallet positions. The facility will cost between $75 million and $80 million and is expected to open next year.

The hub is set to generate $37 million in direct GDP and create up to 100 permanent jobs by 2029. New Brunswick has pledged $1 million in payroll tax rebates for the project, which is aimed at supporting food flows between Central and Eastern Canada, Europe, South America, and APAC.

This will be Americold’s sixth cold storage facility in Canada. Construction is in partnership with DP World and CPKC, with plans to enhance the Port’s capacity and improve market access for New Brunswick’s exporting companies, according to opportunities minister Luke Randall. Americold’s portfolio includes 1.4 billion cubic feet of refrigerated space worldwide.
