The Open Network (TON) experienced a brief outage on June 1 that halted block production before functionality was restored approximately 40 minutes later. No funds were affected, and transactions submitted during the downtime were not at risk. Blockchain network outages may become more common as networks increase in complexity.

In August 2024, TON suffered several outages due to high demand for the DOGS memecoin, causing network congestion and chain halts. The first outage on August 27 lasted several hours before validators reset nodes to restore consensus. Another outage occurred on August 28, lasting roughly six hours before block production resumed.

Despite network outages, TON attracts retail and institutional interest, raising $400 million in March 2025 from firms like Sequoia Capital and SkyBridge. TON continues to grow despite technical challenges, maintaining its appeal in the digital asset space.
