Markel Insurance has finalized the acquisition of MECO Group, a marine managing general agent. The rebranded MECO Specialty will operate under Markel International’s Wholesale division, recording $63m in gross written premiums in 2024. Markel sees the deal as an opportunity to expand its marine portfolio with MECO’s specialized underwriting capabilities covering various marine insurance products. CEO Chris Else views the acquisition as a significant milestone for MECO’s evolution.
