American Eagle Outfitters swings to Q1 loss on higher costs, sluggish demand

American Eagle Outfitters faced challenges in Q1 but managed to meet sales targets despite setbacks in key categories and slow spring start. Total net revenue for the quarter was $1.09bn, a 5% drop from last year, with a 3% decline in comparable sales. Gross profit decreased to $322.42m, and the company reported a net loss of $64.89m. AEO withdrew full-year guidance due to market uncertainties and projects a 5% revenue decline in Q2. Operating income for the quarter is estimated at $40m to $45m, with revised capital expenditures for 2025 at around $275m.
