Ford Motor Company reported a 16% increase in year-over-year sales in May, driven by hybrid and traditional vehicle sales. Sales of the Bronco and Bronco Sport surged, but electric vehicle sales dropped by 25%, with F-150 Lightning EV sales plummeting by 41.7%.

Lincoln saw a 133% increase in sales of its Navigator SUV, while Ford credited its employee pricing program for driving strong sales results. The company introduced the deal in response to President Trump’s 25% tariff on auto imports, but has also raised prices on cars made in Mexico due to tariffs.

Despite Ford’s positive news, the auto industry faces uncertainty over the long-term impact of tariffs. Cox Automotive predicts a cooling of sales in May after a surge to beat tariffs, leading to a 10% drop in car inventory. The GOP’s assault on EVs adds further complexity as new electric vehicle models are released.

House Republicans have proposed ending tax credits for EV buyers, while the Trump administration rolls back auto emissions standards. As the industry navigates these challenges, the future remains uncertain for both sales and the EV market.
