The US Securities and Exchange Commission wins $1.1 million court victory after accused crypto scammer Keith Crews fails to respond to lawsuit. Crews ordered to pay penalties, disgorgement of $530,000, prejudgment interest, and civil penalty. Banned from future securities law violations. SEC alleges Crews ran fraudulent scheme through companies, raised $800,000 from 200 investors selling “Stemy Coin.” Many investors solicited from African-American and church communities. Crews made false claims about token backing and partnerships. SEC claims Crews had no labs, products, research, or stem cell technology. Rare victory for SEC in winding down crypto enforcement actions under Trump administration.
