Research firm Counterpoint revised global smartphone shipment growth expectations for 2025 to 1.9%, down from 4.2%, due to U.S. tariffs. The U.S. suspended tariffs on smartphones and electronics, but challenges remain for manufacturers amid geopolitical tensions. Year-on-year shipment growth in China is near-flat, with Apple and Samsung expected to slow as costs rise. International Data Corp also cut its 2025 forecast to 0.6% due to economic uncertainty and consumer spending pullback. Apple imports a fifth of iPhones to the U.S. from India.
