Taiwan’s exports hit a record high in May, surging 38.6% to $51.74 billion, driven by strong demand for AI and orders ahead of potential U.S. tariffs. This marks the 19th consecutive monthly gain, exceeding economists’ expectations. Major tech companies like TSMC contributed to the growth. Despite optimism for continued AI demand, uncertainty around U.S. tariffs and geopolitical risks remain. The ministry forecasts a 15-25% increase in exports for June. Exports to the U.S. jumped 87.4%, while those to China rose 16.6%. Electronic component exports grew 28.4%, with semiconductor exports up 30.1%. Imports also increased by 25%.
