Two allies of President Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rob Bresnahan, added Tesla shares in May amid strain between Trump and Elon Musk. Trades, made by advisers, resulted in a loss. Congressional purchases of Tesla stock continued until recently. Lawmakers have 30 days to disclose personal trades, hinting at more activity.

Bresnahan, who campaigned on banning the practice, disclosed trades in a new filing. Greene defended her investments, refusing to hide trades in a blind trust. Both lawmakers have overlap with Musk’s business interests. Bresnahan’s eight Tesla trades this year were in $1,001-$15,000 range.

Bresnahan’s disclosure revealed over 50 recent trades, including Nvidia, JPMorgan, and Meta. Trading may be a political liability for Bresnahan. House Speaker Mike Johnson supports a stock trading ban. One bill, the TRUST in Congress Act, would require lawmakers to place assets in blind trusts.

The debate around lawmakers trading stocks has intensified. Bresnahan, a recent example, expressed support for a ban on the campaign trail. Since entering Congress, he unveiled a plan to ban trading while in office. The TRUST Act would allow lawmakers to keep existing holdings.
