SEC and Ripple Wrap Up Case, Distribute $125 Million In Escrow

Ripple and SEC file motion to release $125 million in escrow for settlement costs. $50 million goes to SEC for civil penalty, $75 million back to Ripple pending court approval. Ending lawsuit will be symbolic victory for crypto industry in the US.
Judge rules XRP secondary sales not securities in July 2023, but sales to investors during funding rounds are. Ripple ordered to pay $125 million penalty to SEC in August 2024 ruling. SEC appeals in October 2024, but drops it in March 2025. Ripple retains $75 million from penalty.
