Coinbase Research predicts a positive outlook for crypto markets in the second half of 2025, citing a better macroeconomic environment and increasing corporate interest in digital assets.
Following a rocky start to the year, U.S. GDP is now showing signs of stronger growth, with the Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow tracker at 3.8% QoQ in early June. This, along with expectations of Fed rate cuts, has boosted investor confidence.
Bitcoin’s appeal may rise due to declining dollar dominance and inflation protection, while altcoins could lag without specific catalysts like ETF approvals or protocol developments.
Public companies are adding crypto to their balance sheets, with a rule change in 2024 allowing for “mark-to-market” accounting. However, funding crypto buys with convertible debt could pose risks if refinancing options dry up.
Regulatory changes are on the horizon, with the Senate passing the GENIUS Act for stablecoins and the CLARITY Act to define the roles of the SEC and CFTC in overseeing digital assets.
The SEC is reviewing over 80 crypto ETF applications, with some decisions expected as early as July. Bitcoin is set to benefit from macro and structural tailwinds, while altcoins face challenges in a complex regulatory environment.
