Ethereum Foundation Pledges $500K To Roman Storm’s Defense

The Ethereum Foundation pledged $500,000 to assist Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm’s legal defense against charges of operating an unlicensed money transmission service. Storm’s trial is set for July 14, with his lawyers arguing against the case based on jurisdiction issues. Storm’s colleague, Roman Semenov, is reportedly hiding in Russia. Another developer, Alexey Pertsev, was found guilty of money laundering and sentenced to over five years in prison. The Ethereum Foundation has also pledged $1.25 million to Pertsev’s defense fund. Support for Storm and his colleagues has come from digital asset advocacy groups, including Coin Center, DeFi Education Fund, and Blockchain Association, as well as prominent figures in the crypto industry like Vitalik Buterin and Matt Huang.
