General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) plans to invest $4 billion to move production from Mexico to the US, expanding gas and electric vehicle manufacturing. This includes relocating production of the Chevrolet Equinox and Blazer to Kansas and Tennessee by 2027, respectively. The move follows a 30% sales increase for the Equinox in Q1 2025.
The investment will allow GM to produce over two million vehicles annually in the US, boosting American employment and manufacturing power. CEO Mary Barra and President Mark Reuss emphasize the importance of this strategy for consumer choice and the economy. The company also plans to manufacture light-duty pickups and full-size SUVs with gas engines at the Orion Assembly in Michigan starting in 2027.
