Apple has increased iPhone shipments from India to the U.S. to mitigate impact of tariffs on China-made goods. Between March and May, 97% of iPhones exported by Foxconn from India went to the U.S., up from 50% in 2024. Trump criticized Apple’s production shift to India and threatened a 25% tariff on iPhones made outside the U.S.

Foxconn shipped $4.4 billion worth of iPhones from India to the U.S. in the first five months of 2025, surpassing 2024’s total. Apple chartered planes to fly $2 billion worth of iPhones directly from India to the U.S. This pivot reflects Apple’s response to mounting geopolitical and trade risks, particularly with China.

Counterpoint Research analysts predict 25%-30% of global iPhone production will come from India in 2025, up from 18% in 2024. Apple reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $95.36 billion, exceeding analysts’ expectations. iPhone sales reached $46.84 billion, with historically over 60 million iPhones sold annually in the U.S., 80% manufactured in China.
