Investment firm KKR has acquired Zenith Energy from a consortium, enhancing Zenith’s ability to expand renewable energy solutions in Australia’s remote sectors. Zenith, an independent power producer, focuses on sustainable hybrid power solutions for off-grid clients and urban microgrids. The acquisition supports Australia’s off-grid mining industry and Zenith’s 710MW contracted capacity.

KKR is acquiring Zenith through its Asia Pacific Infrastructure Investors II Fund, expanding its renewable energy sector presence. Zenith’s leadership in deploying hybrid power solutions in Australia aligns with KKR’s investment strategy. The acquisition follows Zenith’s recent refinancing and upsizing of debt facilities, providing growth capital for new project development in the resource sector.

The deal is expected to close by late 2025, pending regulatory approvals. Zenith CEO Hamish Moffat believes KKR’s investment will accelerate growth and service large-scale projects. The investment validates Zenith’s capabilities and competitive edge, positioning the company to continue providing remote energy solutions and pursue new opportunities in Australia’s mining sector decarbonization efforts.

In January 2025, AEP entered a strategic partnership worth $2.82bn with KKR and PSP Investments to divest a 19.9% equity interest in its transmission companies in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. The acquisition of Zenith by KKR signifies a significant move in expanding its global infrastructure portfolio.
