Geomega improves hydrometallurgical process for rare earth deposit, reducing environmental impact and improving economics.
From GlobeNewswire: 2025-06-17 07:30:00
Geomega Resources Inc. provides an update on hydrometallurgical process developments for the Montviel rare earth deposit. Significant upgrades to the process flow sheet have been made, reducing environmental impact and improving project economics. Various metals present in the ore are valorized, distributing financial risk and environmental footprint among different products.
Improvements during testwork include eliminating fine grinding and flotation beneficiation, valorizing about 40% of the overall ore into different offtake streams, and recovering carbonates, iron, rare earth elements, scandium, niobium, and other critical minerals. An internal techno-economic assessment was completed, modeling the hydrometallurgical process using Aspen Plus software.
Geomega’s President & CEO, Kiril Mugerman, thanks the Quebec government for support in developing the critical and strategic mineral industry. The project at Montviel is expected to provide economic and environmental benefits, surviving price fluctuations common in rare earths. Geomega’s technology aims to extract value from mining feeds, tailings, and industrial residues containing rare earths and critical metals.
Geomega develops innovative technologies for rare earth element extraction and separation, working on waste valorization projects. The company owns the Montviel rare earth carbonatite deposit and holds shares in Kintavar Exploration Inc. Geomega’s strategy focuses on de-risking technology, delivering cash flow, and working with industry partners to reduce environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions.
