JetBlue to cut more flights, other costs as break-even 2025 ‘unlikely’

JetBlue Airways CEO Joanna Geraghty announced new cost-cutting measures due to softer-than-expected travel demand, making break-even margins unlikely this year. The carrier will reduce off-peak flights, trim unprofitable routes, and pause retrofitting older jets. U.S. carriers are cutting capacity as domestic travel bookings remain weak, with fares down 7.3% in May.
JetBlue continues to seek revenue and cost-saving opportunities after failed merger attempts. A new partnership with United Airlines was recently announced. CEO Geraghty, who took over in February 2024, is assessing hiring plans but will continue to fill key positions. The airline remains committed to premium-class services and airport lounges.
