Tesla has launched a new megapack battery manufacturing plant in Shanghai, capable of producing 10,000 megapacks per annum. However, construction on the project is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024, and production starting in the fourth quarter of that year. This is a slower-than-expected rollout of the powerful battery project, as Tesla had previously announced plans to start construction in the third quarter and production in the second quarter of the following year. The company’s gigafactory in Shanghai is currently producing at an annual capacity of 1.1 million units, but Tesla has not yet obtained approval from regulators to expand the capacity for electric vehicles in Shanghai.
