The benchmark diesel price for fuel surcharges saw a significant increase, rising 10 cents/gallon to $3.571/g, the largest hike since January. This increase is attributed to a surge in ultra low sulfur diesel prices on the CME commodity exchange prior to the Iran-Israel military conflict.
ULSD prices rose from $2.0445/g on June 2 to $2.2053/g on Wednesday, with a 17 cents/g increase on Friday amid the conflict. Despite a drop in crude prices on Monday, ULSD prices climbed 3.46 cents/g, reflecting the potential impact on oil supplies from the war.
Retail diesel prices are on the rise, with the American Automobile Association reporting an average of $3.567/g on Tuesday, up more than 4 cents from Monday and over 6 cents from the previous week. Local factors may also contribute to price fluctuations beyond broader market trends.
The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel has severely impacted Iranian oil exports, with exports dropping to 102,000 bpd from an average of 1.7 million bpd. This disruption has led to a halt in oil exports from Kharg Island, a key export point for Iran.
The International Energy Agency has revised its global oil demand growth estimate for 2025 to 720,000 b/d, down from 740,000 b/d a month ago. Despite the ongoing conflict and supply disruptions, the IEA maintains a similar growth estimate for 2026, highlighting the volatility in the oil market.
