U.S. homebuilder sentiment dropped unexpectedly in June to its lowest level in two and a half years, as over a third of firms slashed prices to attract buyers deterred by high mortgage rates and economic uncertainty from Trump’s tariffs. The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index fell to 32 from 34 in May, below the expected 36. Measures for sales conditions, future expectations, and buyer traffic all declined across regions. With mortgage rates still high, builders are cutting prices to boost affordability and entice hesitant buyers off the sidelines.
