OpenAI to Phase Out Work with Scale AI Amid Meta Deal

OpenAI is reducing its contracts with Scale AI, following Meta’s $14.8 billion deal for a 49% stake in the data labeling startup. Scale AI provides labeled data for AI models and counts Anthropic, Cohere, and Adept among its clients. Google is also reportedly phasing out contracts with Scale over competitive concerns. OpenAI is transitioning to other data suppliers like Mercor. Scale initially hired contractors to label data, then moved towards hiring more educated contractors for AI model development.
