Volvo Group and Daimler Truck officially launched Coretura, a joint venture focused on developing a standardized software-defined platform for commercial vehicles. The venture aims to create a core software platform and operating system for trucks and buses to drive digital transformation in the transportation industry.
Coretura will develop centralized high-performance control units for commercial vehicles to handle large amounts of data. End customers will be able to purchase and update digital applications wirelessly, benefiting from decoupled software and hardware development cycles. The company plans to launch its first products in vehicles by 2030.
Preliminary data from ACT Research shows a 26% decline in net trailer orders in the U.S. from April to May, totaling 6,600 units. Despite the monthly drop, orders were nearly 12% higher compared to May 2024. Market concerns persist due to weak for-hire truck market fundamentals and other factors affecting trailer market stability.
ACT Research remains cautious about trailer market conditions, citing factors like weak for-hire truck market fundamentals, low used equipment valuations, high interest rates, and policy uncertainties. The subdued build and order intake levels are expected to continue throughout 2025, impacting manufacturers and suppliers in the industry.
