The Ripple case is nearing a climax as ex-SEC lawyer Marc Fagel hints at an imminent final ruling. Speculation arose after a joint status report filed on June 16 requested a delay until August 15, but Fagel believes a ruling could come in hours, days, or weeks. The case involves allegations of selling unregistered XRP securities worth $1.3 billion.

In March 2025, Ripple reached a settlement with the SEC, agreeing to pay $50 million of a $125 million penalty. The case has raised questions about why tokens sold to institutions were deemed securities while those sold to the public were not. Fagel criticized the court’s ruling, calling it a misinterpretation of securities laws.

XRP was trading at $2.15 at the time of the report. Fagel dismissed claims of intentional delays in the ruling process, citing the complexity of writing an opinion and the judge’s busy docket. The case represents a significant legal battle within the crypto community, with implications for the future regulation of digital assets.
