Thailand’s SEC is seeking feedback on rules to allow exchanges to issue utility tokens. The plan includes disclosing names of token issuer associates to prevent insider trading. This initiative is part of Thailand’s effort to regulate the crypto industry, following past incidents of insider trading, including a scandal involving Bitkub’s CTO in 2022.

Insider trading involves buying or selling securities based on nonpublic information, which is illegal in many jurisdictions. Recent cases in the crypto industry include an OpenSea employee convicted of wire fraud and money laundering, as well as charges against Coinbase employees. Binance also suspended a staffer over alleged insider trading, and there were concerns about insider trading involving US President Donald Trump’s memecoin, Official Trump (TRUMP).
