Many homeowners regret buying homes due to hidden maintenance costs, but still value homeownership

A survey by Bankrate revealed that 42% of homeowners have regrets about purchasing their current homes, with the most common regret being unaware of hidden maintenance costs. The average cost of owning a home in the U.S. is $21,400 per year, rising due to inflation and increased competition in the market.

Despite regrets, 70% of homeowners surveyed said they would repurchase their current home, while 17% would not and 13% were unsure. Bankrate also found that 82% of adults view owning a home as a key part of the American Dream, more important than retiring or having a successful career.
