Elon Musk is looking to launch payments on X, formerly Twitter, by mid-2024, and while it was previously expected that cryptocurrency would be included, Musk is now less enthusiastic about the idea. He has stated in an interview with Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood that he doesn’t spend much time thinking about cryptocurrency and that his interest in it is fading. This is surprising given Musk’s history of supporting Dogecoin and Tesla’s stake in Bitcoin. Despite this, X is moving forward with its plan to introduce payment services, having already obtained money transmitter licenses in several U.S. states. X’s revenue has fallen in recent months, but Musk estimates that the new payment service could bring in $1.3 billion annually to the social network.
