Xiaomi launches new electric SUV YU7 priced lower than Tesla's Model Y

Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi unveiled its new electric SUV, the YU7, priced at 253,500 yuan ($35,322), undercutting Tesla’s Model Y. Citi predicts monthly sales of 30,000 units, with annual sales potentially reaching 360,000 units. The YU7 features driver-assist software powered by Nvidia’s Thor chip and pre-sales start Thursday.

Xiaomi’s YU7 SUV, launched earlier than expected, boasts a driving range of 760 kilometers (472 miles) on a single charge, surpassing Tesla’s Model Y. The vehicle also includes advanced AI features like hand gesture controls for music and Apple Car Play support. Xiaomi also introduced AI-connected glasses, similar to Meta’s Ray Bans, with features like payment scanning and photo/video capabilities. The glasses start at 1,999 yuan ($279) and are not planned for international sale.
