UnitedHealth Group has appointed Patrick Conway to lead its health services segment, Optum Health, focusing on value-based care to keep patients healthy. Former CEO Amar Desai becomes vice-chairman, while veteran Stephen Hemsley is the new company-wide CEO after an earnings miss in 2008. Optum Health faces revenue challenges due to reduced Medicare Advantage patient engagement and a Department of Justice probe into billing practices. Hemsley vows to review and improve company practices following recent underperformance.
