Australian crypto billionaire Tim Heath narrowly escaped a kidnapping attempt in Estonia last year by biting off part of the attacker’s index finger. The attackers, posing as painters, tried to force Heath into a van but he managed to break free. Heath lost a tooth in the struggle, with the attackers fleeing and abandoning the van nearby. Heath, originally from Australia, founded Yolo Group and Yolo Investments, with a net worth of $1.61 billion. The group of seven kidnappers allegedly stalked Heath before the assault and entered Estonia using forged passports. Their plan was to force Heath to transfer his crypto holdings, with a hacker recruited to assist. Two men are on trial, while the alleged organizer and three others are wanted by police. One accused claims he only pretended to participate and later aborted the plan, while the other denies involvement. Prosecutors claim that weeks after the failed kidnapping, Heath received a message demanding 30 Bitcoin worth $3.3 million. Despite no further contact, prosecutors argue the threat may still be ongoing. Heath has spent over $3.1 million on security since the attack and his legal team seeks reimbursement from the accused kidnappers.
