In June, U.S. LNG exports dropped to their second lowest level for the year due to maintenance work at major facilities, selling 8.4 million metric tons compared to May’s 8.9 MT. Cheniere’s Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi plants, along with other facilities, underwent maintenance causing the reduction.
Despite Asian economic slowdown, U.S. LNG exports favored Europe in June, with 66% of exports going to Europe and 19% to Asia. With LNG Canada’s plant now exporting, it could compete with U.S. exports to Asia. U.S. also increased exports to Latin America due to cold weather and gas supply issues in Argentina.
U.S. LNG exports maintained versatility in June, with shipments to Egypt and South Africa. Deals with Asian buyers could lead to more exports over the next five years, solidifying the U.S.’s position as the top LNG exporter globally.
