Bunge completes $34 billion merger with Viterra, creating crop giant

Global agribusiness Bunge Global has officially closed a $34 billion mega-merger deal with Viterra, creating a crop trading and processing giant to rival Archer-Daniels-Midland and Cargill. Bunge shares rose 1.4% on Wednesday, marking a turnaround for the company after facing takeover attempts by Glencore and ADM. China’s market regulator granted conditional approval last month. CEO Greg Heckman will lead the combined company, with Viterra CEO David Mattiske and Bunge’s Julio Garros as co-COOs. The merger enhances Bunge’s presence in the US and expands its global grain storage and handling capacity in Canada and Australia.
