US eases restrictions on chip design software and ethane exports to China
The U.S. lifts restrictions on chip design software exports to China, easing trade tensions. Synopsys, Cadence Design Systems, and Siemens restore access to their technology for Chinese customers. Ethane producers also no longer face restrictive licensing requirements for exports to China, part of de-escalation efforts amid rare earths dispute.
Beijing’s rare earths export suspension, a response to Trump’s tariffs, disrupted supply chains in sectors like automakers and aerospace. Threatening a trade deal, China and the U.S. confirm a framework to review export applications for controlled items, leading to the cancellation of corresponding restrictive measures.
Siemens resumes sales and support for Chinese customers after export control restrictions are lifted. Synopsys plans to restore access to Chinese customers within three business days. Long-term restrictions on EDA software access would have severely impacted China’s chip design industry, with Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens holding over 70% of the market.
