Fortune Magazine: Warner Bros. ‘Aquaman’ sequel tops holiday weekend box office

From Fortune Magazine:

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” the sequel starring Jason Momoa, led the weekend box office with $28.1 million in domestic ticket sales. The film is projected to reach around $40 million by Christmas Day. Despite the release of new films, including “Migration,” “Anyone But You,” “The Iron Claw,” and “All of Us Strangers,” the pre-Christmas weekend was quieter at the box office. Time constraints due to the Christmas holiday may have played a role in lower movie attendance. “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is expected to make around $120 million globally, with international estimates at $80 million through Monday. The film is yet another success for DC and Warner Bros., following a year of box office disappointments for the studio. Other films that performed well over the weekend include “Wonka,” “Migration,” and “Salaar: Part 1—Ceasefire.” Overall, the box office is expected to have a strong finish to 2022, offering a variety of film options that appeal to a wide range of audiences.
