HBD secures approval for £1bn Golden Valley project in Cheltenham, creating jobs and innovation
Henry Boot Developments (HBD) secures outline planning consent for phase one of the Golden Valley project in Cheltenham, England. The project aims to deliver 2,500 new homes and 1.25 million square feet of commercial space, including the new National Cyber Innovation Centre. Construction set to start later this year.
Valued at £1bn ($1.36bn), the Golden Valley project near GCHQ is expected to create 12,000 jobs and boost the UK’s capabilities in AI, quantum technologies, and secure communications. The project received a £104m funding package, with £20m from the UK government, emphasizing public sector support and alignment with the Cyber Security Strategy.
Henry Boot CEO Tim Roberts highlights the significance of securing planning permission for Golden Valley, stressing public-private sector collaboration to strengthen the UK’s cybersecurity and emerging technology sectors. GCHQ director Dr. Marsha Quallo-Wright looks forward to enhancing security capabilities through collaboration with academia and industry.
HBD recently announced a joint venture with Feldberg Capital to establish Origin, a UK-focused industrial and logistics platform. The approval for phase one of the Cheltenham project signifies a major milestone in regional investment, supporting the UK’s mission to enhance cybersecurity and innovation.
