Jack Dorsey Introduces Bitchat: Decentralized Messaging App Works Without Internet or Servers
Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey has unveiled Bitchat, a Bluetooth-based messaging app that works without internet, servers, or phone numbers. Built over a weekend, the app enables encrypted, peer-to-peer communication via Bluetooth mesh — ideal for use during blackouts, protests, or remote travel.
Key features include:
- End-to-end encryption (Curve25519 & AES-GCM)
- No central servers or accounts
- Panic mode for instant data wipe
- iOS beta available via TestFlight (fully subscribed)
Inspired by Bitcoin’s decentralized ethos, Bitchat marks another step in Dorsey’s push for privacy-first, infrastructure-free communication tools. Android support and wider rollout are expected soon.
