Fortune Magazine: Holiday travel: Southwest Airlines cancels hundreds, delays thousands of flights

From Fortune Magazine:

Travel conditions were generally good for holiday travelers this Christmas, but Southwest Airlines saw some cancellations and delays. While Christmas on Sunday was smooth, only 157 flights in, out, or within the U.S. were canceled with 2,111 delayed by Monday afternoon. Additionally, Southwest canceled 426 flights and delayed 2,689 flights over the weekend, blaming dense fog in Chicago.

U.S. airlines had prepared for the holiday by hiring more staff to avoid similar issues experienced in 2022. Due to good flying weather, travel schedules mostly remained on time. Road conditions in some parts of the country, however, were hazardous due to snow and ice. With mild weather guaranteeing decent travel times, the TSA confirmed more than 2.6 million people were screened on Thursday. Auto club AAA expected 115 million people in the U.S. to travel over the holiday, a 2% increase from last year. Most people were likely to travel on the roads on December 23 and 28.
