Morrisons boosts store navigation with AI-powered product finder

UK supermarket chain Morrisons has launched a Product Finder feature in its app, developed using Gemini AI models on Google Cloud. During Easter 2025, it recorded 50,000 daily uses, allowing customers to locate products efficiently even during store layout changes.

Customers input product names and receive aisle details. Morrisons’ Chief Data Officer praised BigQuery for enabling new customer solutions. The app uses Cloud Run to process queries and Gemini AI to match them with product codes in BigQuery for quick responses.

Google Cloud praised Morrisons for streamlining the shopping experience with technology. Morrisons operates 500 supermarkets and 1,600 Morrisons Daily stores nationwide, with an online delivery service covering 97% of UK postcodes.

In Q2 2025, Morrisons reported a 3.9% increase in like-for-like sales with total sales up 4.2% to £3.9bn ($5.2bn). The supermarket chain continues to innovate for customer convenience with AI-powered tools like the Product Finder feature in its mobile app.
