Rolls-Royce is investing $75 million to expand its engine manufacturing facility in Aiken, South Carolina, boosting output of mtu Series 4000 diesel engines for data centers. The investment will create 60 new jobs, increase capabilities, and strengthen Rolls-Royce’s U.S. industrial presence. The company is shifting focus to energy and power systems, beyond aerospace.

Rolls-Royce will machine additional mtu Series 4000 components in the U.S., supporting America’s demand for domestically made energy systems. The company currently produces components in Germany. This expansion follows a partnership announcement with the UK and Czech Republic to collaborate on small modular reactors. Rolls-Royce SMRs could export up to six reactors to the Czech Republic.

The South Carolina site will become a hub in Rolls-Royce’s North American power systems strategy, with expansion starting in Q1 2026 and production in July 2027. This marks the company’s second major announcement in two days, highlighting its commitment to growth and innovation in the energy sector.
