The U.S. Commerce Department will impose a 93.5% anti-dumping duty on Chinese graphite imports due to unfair subsidies. American Active Anode Material Producers complained about violations of anti-dumping laws, resulting in a total 160% tariff on Chinese active anode material.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had no immediate response to the anti-dumping duties on graphite. Beijing emphasized the mutually beneficial nature of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation and urged the U.S. to adhere to market economy principles for a stable trade relationship.

The anti-dumping measures aim to protect U.S. industries but also benefit non-Chinese competitors as buyers seek alternative suppliers for supply-chain resilience. In South Korea, battery-material stocks rallied, with Posco Future M, PI Advanced Materials, and L&F seeing significant gains after securing a China-free cathode supply chain.

Battery-material suppliers in Australia also saw a rise in shares, with companies like Syrah Resources, Renascor, and Talga experiencing gains. Novonix, operating a synthetic graphite facility in North America, saw a 16% increase in shares, emphasizing the importance of building a domestic supply chain for critical minerals.
