Recent changes to U.S. tax credit rules for EV purchases will stimulate sales by allowing the credit to be used at the point of sale, up to $7,500, rather than at the end of the tax year. However, new sourcing requirements, including the ineligibility of models using battery components manufactured in China, may have the opposite effect. This move aims to foster a North American supply chain for EVs. It’s a delicate balance that policymakers need to navigate to ensure continued growth in the EV market.
