Constellation Brands has sold Copper & Kings to local spirits group Bourdon Spirits Company. The deal was finalized on 5 August, with undisclosed financial terms. Bourdon Spirits plans to deepen its investment in American brandy. Production will continue at Copper & Kings’ distillery in Kentucky. Bourdon Spirits is also based in Louisville. Rob Bourdon, the founder of Bourdon Spirits, looks forward to honoring Copper & Kings’ legacy and expanding American brandy’s reach.
Constellation Brands first invested in Copper & Kings in 2018, acquiring the business in 2020. Previously, the company sold Svedka vodka to Sazerac, focusing on higher-end wine and spirits brands. In April, Constellation sold six wine brands to The Wine Group. The company also sold other brands like Cooper & Thief and The Dreaming Tree to The Wine Group in 2022. Despite these sales, Constellation still retains wine brands priced $15 and above.
Constellation Brands has faced challenges in its Wine and Spirits division, with declining sales. In the first quarter of fiscal 2026, the company saw a 21% decline in organic net sales for wine and spirits. Constellation expects a further drop in organic net sales for the unit and a significant decrease in organic operating income. The company’s Wine and Spirits division has seen a decline in performance.
